In addition to receiving information and communications from the Court and other actors, Cambodians also have the chance to participate in the tribunal’s proceedings. In 2010, 1% of the respondents reported that an organization had contacted them to participate in ECCC proceedings. This is an increase from 2008 when none of the respondents reported having been contacted. Similarly, 1% of the 2010 respondents indicated having participated in ECCC proceedings, mainly attending hearings or visiting the Court. None of the respondents had applied to become a Civil Party at the Court, which is not surprising given the limited number of parties as a proportion of the total population. It also highlights that while factual knowledge has increased about the Court, much remains to be done in terms of informing Cambodians about such possibilities to participate if Case 003 or 004 take place.
